The Plato Awards Ceremony took place in 1999, on the 10th anniversary of Chip'N'Dale's Rescue Rangers TV Show appearing on broadcast television. The award ceremonies were written by Matt Plotecher. The Platos were the predecessors of the Golden Acorn Awards, which owe much to them in terms of inspiration, format and nominations structure, the majority of which are still a part of the show. In fact, only two of the nominations became history, namely Best Illustration - Solo (award for, according to Matt Plotecher, 'those illustrations depicting stories which do not currently exist, inviting the viewer to exercise their imagination as to what the tale might be to produce such an image') and Best Script (nod to, as Matt put it, 'the vast majority of Ranger fanfics to first arrive on the ‘Net which were meant to be proposals for new episodes' and the author of which need 'to create scenes just as real and intense as those found in prose, but must do so while juggling the technical jargon of camera directions, blocking, and character descriptions').
