Like all forms of art, Rescue Ranger fanfictions have a few clichés that are often used. This page tries to list some of them, but will probably never be really complete. If you're a writer you should know that clichés aren't bad in and of themselves, but you should try to make the trope you use your own.

Gadget lookalikes

May or may not be part of her extended family, the Gadget-lookalikes will either feature traits similar to Gadget's or traits almost completely opposite (Widget may count as an example of that).

Gadget lookalikes:
*Widget
*Lahwhinie (canon character)

Injuries and drama

  • Chip getting physically hurt.

Gadget angst

Most violent in stories set near the beginning of the Rescue Rangers' history, but frequently shows up in other stories too. Geegaw's death is most often a plane crash.

General comedy tropes and running gags

  • Gadget's cooking.

In fanfics, Gadget is shown to have extraordinary cooking power, capable of making anything inedible. Her food usually tastes of motor oil and can sometimes have nonstandard properties.

  • Should work with no problems

When Gadget says that something "should work with no problems", the results are almost certain to be exactly opposite. A plane would crash, a vehicle would spin out of control, a device would go haywire. Some authors actually consider it to be a curse running in the family for generations.
